Softball splits two doubleheaders

The Centralia College softball team split a pair of doubleheaders over the weekend, first against Clark on Friday, then against Clackamas on Saturday.

In both doubleheaders, CC took Game 1 with a dominant offensive effort.

On Friday against Clark, the Trailblazers scored nine runs in the second inning to immediately take control and set the stage for a 14-0 victory.

Lena Fragner finished a home run shy of the cycle while driving in two runs, while Natalie Loose added a pair of hits and drove in three runs.

Gracie Schofield and Makayla Chavez both finished with two RBIs, and every other Trailblazer in the lineup also drove in a run in the victory.

Ava Hernandez was just as dominant in the circle, throwing a five-inning no-hitter while walking just two batters.

Game 2 against Clark was tied at one after five innings of play, but the Penguins scored five runs in the sixth to jump in front.

CC rallied for three runs in the bottom half to get within two, but couldn't find the two runs necessary to tie the game.

Macey Fleutsch finished with two hits, including a triple, and drove in three runs, while Fragner collected another three hits.

On Saturday, another nine-run inning helped CC take control against Clackamas.

A nine-run fifth turned a 3-2 deficit into an 11-3 lead, an advantage that the Trailblazers would hold on to for a 12-10 win.

CC's two through six hitters — Chavez, Schofield, Fragner, and Hernandez — drove in two runs each and combined to collect 10 hits.

Like the day before, CC lost its second game to Clackamas 6-4.

The Trailblazers led 3-0 through three and a half, but the Cougars scored all six of their runs over the next two innings to take the lead.

Loose added another three hits, while Hernandez tallied another two hits and drove in another pair of runs.

CC (19-19, 11-17 NWAC) will host Grays Harbor in another doubleheader on Tuesday before rounding out its regular season with a doubleheader at Lower Columbia College on Friday.
