CC holds off Portland for first win
The Centralia College women's basketball held off a late Portland push on Tuesday, hanging on for an 87-84 victory to post its first win of the season.
The Trailblazers (1-4) came out strong, opening the game on a 12-2 run, and they eventually built their lead to 29-10.
They maintained a double-digit lead into the second half, but the Panthers began to chip away and eventually got within one at 57-56.
A 12-1 run helped the Trailblazers re-extend their lead, but again Portland was able to respond. Late in the second half, the Panthers even took a three-point lead, their first of the game, at 79-76.
Jazlyn Corouz sank a clutch three to tie the game at 79, and after a pair of free throws from Jordyn Johnson, Morning Sky Iron Moccasine put the Trailblazers up 83-81 with a layup in the final minutes. A Corpuz layup and pair of free throws from Keiryn Mann were enough to ice it.
As a team, CC shot 72 percent from the line and 40 percent from the field.
Abi Lundblad led the offense with 19 points and 17 rebounds, while Khloe Walker scored 18 points to go with five rebounds.
Mann finished with 17 points and seven boards, while Mya Penswick and Corpuz finished with a combined 15 points.
CC will hit the road on Tuesday to face Yakima Valley.
